Getting Started

This is my first blog and I realize I have a lot to learn. So I will start with the content that I need to provide.

I. I have been married to the same man for going on 12 years. We have two beautiful children. Colin is 10 and going into the 5th grade and Tristan is 7 going into the 2nd grade. They both keep us very busy with baseball, basketball, taekwondo, and gymnastics. Brian works for Champion Toyota as the body shop manager. He's doing very well but has to travel daily back and forth to South Austin, so with gas prices these days, it's tough. I am in my 16th year of education. I started teaching in 1990 in Bastrop, Texas. I taught 5th for two years, then switched to 3rd grade for 3 years. I then met my husband and moved to Round Rock in 1995. I taught at Berkman Elementary for 5 years, grades 2-5 and Talented and Gifted. I then had Tristan and we decided I should stay home to take care of both kids. I stayed home for 3 years, then went back to teaching. I first went back to Berkman to teach 4th grade, then transferred to Cactus Ranch Elementary to teach 3rd grade for two more years. During this time I started the Prinicpalship Program at University of Texas and now I'm currently an administrator in Round Rock. I can't believe I've actually done this now for two years and now beginning my 3rd year into administrator. I love what I do!!!

This summer I am one of the district's summer enrichment program directors. I am working at McNeil High School with 6th-12th At-Risk students. I'm learning a lot. It is a nice change. I like working with the older kids. I plan on blogging alot about this this summer. I also took some pictures of the different activities the students are doing.

Sounds like your responsibilities this summer are significantly different than your normal role in an elem. school! Do you have any favorite activities the students in enrichment have done so far? I'm teaching 8th grade Math SSI this session and haven't been able to figure out what the "enrichment" program is all about.
I look forward to hearing your ideas about utilizing your blog as an administrator...I love the idea someone mentioned on another comment about the ease of looking up past posts via tags instead of digging through email history to find a relevant piece of info.
Good luck improving your categorization habits...I'm right there with you!
